After having a Twitter account permanently suspended, I learned – the hard way – how to and not to use my automated program. If you did not get a chance to read my last post, I was testing out new posts during my automated software’s evaluation period and finally figured out what a compelling post could do for me. I posted using a new style and literally had 33 visitors to my landing page in just a few minutes.
I was so excited that I purchased the full version of
TweetAdder (a must have!) and set it up in the stupidest way humanly possible and in less than 24-hours, by account was suspended…forever! So from that I wanted to share with you and save you from the same embarrassing situation.
Key rule to follow: Don’t abuse the system. Work within it. Keep your automated tasks reasonable. Twitter wants to see that you are human so if you are going to automate, keep it what would appear reasonable. If you work 8 hours a day, you cannot reasonably add 100 follower without spending the day doing it. So, what would be reasonable? Set your automation to something you can actually do if you were doing it yourself. In 8 hours if you add 5 people every hour, that is 40 people. I could add 5 people an hour, but 40 is too round so make it something like 41 people a day. You get the idea.
Prior to even testing automation tools, I researched several different programs and reviews. The one program that universally received the highest ratings was
TweetAdder (a must have!). Most programs had the same capabilities such as automated follow, unfollow, auto tweets, but the features that REALLY stand out are the features that allow you to manager several accounts.
Overview Page: Allows you to see all of your accounts on one screen and which automated tools are running. Also allows you to turn certain accounts on and off instead of deleting and reinstalling.
Proxy Accounts: Another amazing feature you will seriously appreciate is if you do have multiple accounts you can load different proxy accounts so that you appear your accounts are in different locations.
Black and White Lists: This is great because if you have someone you do not want following you no matter what you can list their Twitter name. On the flip side, let’s say you want to follow someone like Robert Kiyosaki who you know will not follow you back, but you want to keep following, you simply add that person to your white list and they will not be removed.
So that brings us to Following and Unfollowing: You can automate who you follow and unfollow the people who do not follow you back. You can automate who you follow based on terms such as “network marketer” or if you are a local coffee shop, you can follow “coffee addict” within 5 miles of your shop. There are several ways to search and when you automate, you will consistently build your following.
Automated Communications - Tweets: Because Twitter is a social medium, it not suggested you automate all of your tweets. It is better to keep it more personal. I personally do a bit of both, but I only automate 3 to 5 tweets per day. You can auto tweet, but keep in mind, amateurs will sell products on a social media, a good marking professional will PROVIDE content and value.
Automated Communications - RSS Feed: Add RSS feed such as to your blog and TweetAdder will automatically add tweets. It is suggested that you only add title not the description or the tweet will be too long.
Automated Communications – Retweets: You can automate retweeting your favorite celebrity or major player in your niche. You can search through the person’s tweets and only retweet specific content. For example, if you want to retweet Madonna or Lady Gaga, you can search through their tweets and only retweet if they mention the word “song” in the tweet.
Automated Communications – Replies and Thank Yous: You can automatically send reply to someone who does an @reply or @mention. This is an excellent opportunity to invite to visit your blog or your Facebook and become a friend.
Trends: In this screen, you can see what topics are popular at the moment. The benefit of this is that you can also identify which topics you can benefit from and can use to market your product, website, blog, etc.
TweetAdder really is a must have! Twitter is the 10th most visited site on the Internet, which makes it essential part of your marketing strategy especially if you are an online marketing professional and want to succeed working at home. When using an automated program, keep all of your automation reasonable just as we discussed earlier. To your Twitter success!
